Week of the Economist Profession at Sofia University and a meeting with students from the National Trade and Banking High School
25 March 2024
At the end of March, we had the opportunity to participate in two career events at which we met hundreds of young people who truly inspired us and gave us hope that the Generation Z is ready to conquer the banking and insurance sector.
On 20 March our HR team joined an event, organized jointly by the management of the National Trade and Banking High School and Sofia University. We had the opportunity to meet students and tell them about the challenges of working at UBB/DZI, and present them in brief our internship programmes. There was huge interest in us, students kept asking questions actively and definitely confirmed our expectation that KBC Group is a recognizable employer for them. We had invited at the event our colleague Nikola Nikolov Todorov – Sales Expert (front office) at Millennium Agency, who shared with the students his personal story that had started exactly in the National Trade and Banking High School and continued in DZI. Nikola is a wonderful example of consistency, purposefulness, incessant motivation to develop and a successfully built career precisely at KBC Group.
The partnership with the National Trade and Banking High School has always been valuable to us and that is why we will continue partnering and providing opportunities for a successful career launch of youngsters, going forward.
Also, in the period between 25-28 March we took part in the Week of the Economist Profession at the Faculty of Economics in Sofia University, by presenting UBB and DZI as one of the leading employers in the sector.
The event gave us the opportunity to meet tenths of youths, who had come out of curiosity to find out what did actually the „banker“ and „insurer“ professions mean and to consider whether this could be their cup of tea years after. Besides meeting them we also had the opportunity to present the various options, offered by the banking and insurance sector and to prove wrong the statement that working for a bank/insurer is dull.
The event was declared open by Nadya Stoyanova and Maria Ilieva, career consultants at the university, who shared valuable insights as to how young people could successfully find their suitable job. One of the most interesting parts of the event was the Face to Face - Meet the Employers session, at which 1st and 3rd year students of Economy and Finance and Business Administration major got acquainted with all employers, attending the event and were able to ask their questions, as well as hear about the particular opportunities for internship/work at UBB and DZI, of which they were interested. At those meetings we had also invited our colleagues – Elitsa Milanova – Shipka Branch Manager, who told the youngsters about the challenges of working in the branch network of UBB and how interesting and rewarding it actually was to start a job at a branch of a bank. There was also strong male presence on the part of the SME Banking Directorate, namely Borislav Popov – Regional Manager of Sofia West Region and Martin Trikyakin – SME Relationship Manager in Sofia East Region, who did manage to motivate the discussion participants with their personal stories. Martin had started his career path as an intern at UBB and today he is a successful relationship manager and a future mentor of newly recruited colleagues. Borislav, on his part, inspired the young people by telling them how interesting his career path was – he started as an intern and climbed up gradually the career ladder up to his current position – a leader of a large team, servicing and lending to business clients.
Students were very active and kept asking questions, as one of the least anticipated questions that young people were excited about was the following – „Do bankers have tattoos?“
