Christof De Mil has been elected Management Board Member of the Association of Banks in Bulgaria

Christof De Mil, Management Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of UBB has been elected Management Board Member of the Association of Banks in Bulgaria (ABB). This happened during the ABB General Meeting, held on 28.05.2025.
„It is an honour and a huge responsibility for me to join the Banking Association’s Management Board. My election coincides with a very responsible period for this country and for the banking sector, linked to the accession of Bulgaria to the Eurozone, the evolvement of topics, such as banking regulations, sustainable development, accelerated digitalization and the challenges and opportunities it creates for the banking sector. The Association’s role is crucial in leading the institutional dialogue on these topics, as well as in strengthening the authority and credibility of the Bulgarian banking sector. We may be competitors on the market, but when it comes to common and significant issues for Bulgaria’s society and economy, we have the responsibility to be united and strong in our stance“, shared Christof De Mil on the occasion of his election.
Christof De Mil took over the position as Country Manager of KBC Group for Bulgaria, Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer of UBB since 1st January 2025. He started his career at KBC as early as in 1995, holding various positions as a Branch Manager and Regional Manager. His international career involves CSOB Czech Republic as Executive Director Retail Banking. He joined the Management Board of the Bulgarian entity of KBC Group in 2011 and over the years he was in charge of various domains – Retail Banking, Small and Medium Enterprises and Information Technologies. In 2017 he became Chief Financial Officer of UBB and the first Innovation Leader of KBC Group in Bulgaria. He holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Economics (from the University of Ghent) and an MBA (from INSEAD).
As a member of the ABB Management Board, he will have a three-year mandate. The General Meeting of the Association re-elected Tsvetanka Mincheva, Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit Bulbank, as MB Deputy-Chairperson, and re-affirmed the three-year mandate of the members Nikola Bakalov, Chief Executive Officer of First Investment Bank, Sava Stoynov, Executive Director of Central Cooperative Bank, and Georgi Zamanov, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Bank Bulgaria.
For more than 30 years now the Association of Banks in Bulgaria has been uniting representatives of the Bulgarian banking sector. ABB members are 22 credit institutions, employing more than 25 000 people. The ABB is a member of the European Banking Federation (EBF) and of the European Payment Council (ЕРС). In its activity it is being guided by the best European practices.
