28 August 2025
Applications for 218 projects have been submitted for the 16-th edition of the Choose to Help donor programme of UBB. This is a record number of projects, as compared to all previous editions. Applicants, willing to receive funding from the campaign, which is unique in its nature, and combines individual, corporate and external donorship, are representatives of non-governmental organizations – foundations and associations, community centres, municipalities and town councils, schools, universities and others.
This year’s edition involves participants from all regions of Bulgaria, representing small, medium-sized and large towns and cities. By tradition, applying projects are being grouped in the following categories – „Health-related projects“, „Social Projects“, „Cultural and Educational Projects“, „Environmental Projects“. Applicants also involve such, traditionally participating with their causes and such, applying with a project or an idea of theirs for the first time.
As per the programme guidelines, all projects, meeting the Choose to Help requirements, have been submitted for external assessment to the Bulgarian Donor Forum (BDF). The criteria, under which the BDF assesses projects, are an organization’s capability to realize the project; a project’s public significance and sustainability; correspondence of the campaign’s scope with the sought funding of the project; a project’s potential for realization as compared to the sought funding and measurability of the results. An additional bonus is given to projects, which realization makes it possible and there is a proposal for involvement of volunteers on the part of UBB.
Following the BDF assessment, projects will also go through the internal ranking and approval procedure of UBB, as at the beginning of October the Bank’s Management Board will approve those that will be included in the donor phase per se. The programme is planned to be launched on 20 October for the employees of KBC Group in Bulgaria and on 01 November for external donations. The donor campaign will continue until 31.12.2025, and UBB is going to increase the amount of the donations, made by the employees, by adding another BGN 100 to those who have donated BGN 10 and more for a given project; BGN 50 to those who have donated from BGN 5 up to BGN 9.99 for a given project; BGN 20 to those who have donated from BGN 1 up to BGN 4.99 for a given project.
Choose to Help is a donorship programme of UBB, having 15 editions up until now. Raised funds through those approximate BGN 4 million and have supported over 320 projects of 160 different organizations in Bulgaria. It is an indispensable part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
